The subject that I am photographing is tattoos/body art. I chose this subject for a couple different reasons. First being, to me, tattoos are art in it's purest form. Each tattoo has its own story as to why the person got it to begin with. There is so much creativity, color, line work and precision that goes into a single tattoo whether it be a word or a drawing. Secondly, I chose this topic because I wanted to learn more about the process. Yah you see the TV shows about tattooing, but you don't quite understand the process or time and effort that goes into a tattoo until you either get one, or watch it first hand. To me, the importance of documenting tattoos, is to give everyone a clear close up understanding of what it takes to getting a tattoo from sketch to finished product. I'm probably not the only person whose going to say this, but a picture is worth a thousand words. You can write and write and write till your hand falls off talking about something, but when you see a picture, your mind takes you down a path that maybe wasn't even close to what the person was trying to tell you, and lets you take in your own experience and feelings about that one subject.
